Agreements

Code of Conduct

Preamble: I hereby agree with and understand that my being a card holding member of The Earth Temple puts me in a very sacred and privileged position where peoples of all ethnic ancestral backgrounds can be supported.

If I should have a problem with The Earth Temple (TET), The Leadership, Council or a TET member, I hereby agree to either address it directly with the other person, through my Branch leaders or individually through the courts.

I will not make The Earth Temple a party to any legal proceedings without written authorization to do so from church headquarters in California.  My signature below acknowledges that I am committed to faithfully living & practicing my spiritual path in alignment with these Earth Temple Codes of Ethics & Conduct.

  • I devote to living a Sacred Earth–Honoring Lifestyle which practices the Core Values of aliveness, radical honesty, compassion, humility, strength, & curiosity.

  • I devote to making effort to spend time each day in meditation & prayer, drawing closer to the one true teacher: Nature / Aliveness.

  • I devote to only use the sacred nature-based medicines & ceremonies to heal, celebrate & create with my body, mind & spirit & to serve myself & others, thereby in the journey to create peace & harmony in my relations.

  • I devote that I will keep the ceremonies & what is shared there by all others sacred, NEVER sharing it outside the circle.

  • I devote that I understand my responsibility to financially contribute to those who bless me. I will remember that TET facilitators & leaders have lives & families that need their time & space to provide for them. I will be respectful & generous as they support & assist me.

  • I understand that being a member of The Earth Temple, I am in a position where people may weigh the organization by my actions & words. In person, on social media, on the web or in any way, I will respect everyone. If I have criticisms or concerns with another member, facilitator, or anyone associated with TET in any way, I will work it out with them directly or through the leadership within TET.

  • I will not share sacraments with nor receive compensation for medicines from those who are not members of TET. I understand that doing so removes my legal protection & could expose me to prosecution.

  • I devote to not to disrespect the medicines & sacraments by using them for any recreational or abusive purposes.

  • I devote to learning about my own ancestry, in additional to practices from other cultures. I devote to never replicate practices from ANY tradition unless I have been granted the permission by a leader to do so. I devote to not to present to be a medicine facilitator, “shaman” or in any leadership that has not been granted to me through a lineage.

  • I will not manipulate or take advantage of others emotionally, sexually, mentally, spiritually, financially or physically that are in a vulnerable, open state during & after ceremonies, while using sacramental medicines, or at any time, ever.

Code of Ethics

General Principles and Nature-Based Spiritual Practices

For TET Members

B1) PREPARATION AND SAFETY. Each participant in TET ceremonies must agree to comply with all directions & instructions from the Facilitators concerning the safety & well-being of all who are attending.

B2) LIFE CHANGES. Often, the increased awareness gained from Nature-Based work & ceremonies will catalyze a desire in the participant’s lives for change. In most cases, these changes should only be made after deep introspection, council from trusted others (& sometimes mental care professionals) others & consideration as to how they will affect the other beings connected to participant.

B3) EXISTING CONDITIONS. TET Members agree to disclose to the TET Facilitators any previous physical health or mental health conditions prior to any ceremony that might be affected in any way during a ceremony, including, at a minimum, discussion of any concerns as to how those conditions could be reasonably be seen as presenting physical or psychological risks. TET Members also agree to disclose to the TET Facilitators any previous conditions they are aware of in other participants that might affect a ceremony.

B4) MINDFULLNESS. TET Members agree to assist the Medicine Facilitators in monitoring the Health & Safety of all participants during the work/ceremony & the few hours-days of vulnerability that may follow a ceremony.

B5) CONSENT OF PARTICIPANT. The autonomy & dignity of each Member &/or Authorized Participant are to be respected & preserved by TET Facilitators. Participation in any TET Ceremony must be voluntary & based on prior disclosure & consent given by each participant while in an ordinary rational state of consciousness.

For TET Leaders and Members

C1) RESPECT. The Earth Temple Facilitators & Members agree to conduct themselves in ways that cultivate awareness, empathy, & wisdom for all Members during ceremonies. TET Members also agree to respect, strengthen & continually support the TET Facilitators as they serve the TET Community.

C2) LIMITATIONS. Limits on the behaviors between TET Members & TET Facilitators Leaders are to be made clear & agreed upon in advance of any work/ceremony.

C3) MINORS. Those under 18 years old will not be admitted to ceremonies where controlled substances are present unless all of the following requirements are fulfilled. A) The medicine facilitator gives specific permission for their attendance, B) A parent or legal guardian attends with them and takes full responsibility for their care & well-being, C) The minor person is a member of TET,  & D) A document stating the above & is signed by all affected parties.

C4) CONFIDENTIALITY & CUSTOMS. Cultural / religious customs & confidentiality of all participants are to be accepted & honored by all TET members. The rituals & practices are NOT TO BE REPLICATED outside of TET spaces unless you undergo training & receive permission to do so.

C5) ABUSE OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. The Earth Temple has zero tolerance for any manner of physical, emotional &/or sexual abuse of any under aged person, & any abuse and/or exploitation of ANY person in any physical, emotional &/or sexual form. The violation of this fundamental ethic by any TET member will subject the violator to the full consequences of the Laws of the Land.

C6) SACRAMENTS UNDER DIRECTION OF MEDICINE FACILITATORS. Members of The Earth Temple agree that any substance admitted into the body may be considered to be a sacrament. Some of those substances have the potential to be harmful if inappropriately used. The Earth Temple does not approve of the utilization of ANY sacrament in a manner that would be likely to cause harm to one’s self or to others. Therefore, members agree that “Controlled” substances must be used under the direction of TET Medicine Facilitators who are legally protected. This direction extends to the personal private use when not in ceremony or direct contact with the Medicine Facilitators. Members agree that sacraments/medicines should always be stored in such a way that they are not available to those who are not members or are not under the direction of medicine people. Personal or recreational use of any controlled substances is not encouraged & may remove some legal protections unless such is indicated by the member’s spiritual advisor or medicine person as being part of their spiritual & healing practice. If the leader does make such indication, they share in the legal responsibility for such use.

C7) INCLUSIVENESS. The Earth Temple ceremonies are conducted in the spirit of service. TET Members agree to participate in ceremonies respecting all participants & leaders regardless of race, religious affiliations, gender, cultural background, financial status, &/or political affiliations.

C8) LEGAL STANDING. Members & leaders including medicine facilitators do not have legal standing to represent or involve The Earth Temple (TET)Legal actions (including lawsuits, civil actions, & legal complaints, among others) taken by members & facilitators MAY NOT indicate that TET is in any way, apart of that action.
